Commentary:

I was first introduced to Saba after randomly finding his track with Twista, ‘GPS’, on Spotify. I immediately fell in love with his cadence, his wordplay, and the content of his music. ‘Photosynthesis’ also blew up off the ‘Bucket List Project’ and I felt like for awhile that song was on everyone’s IG stories and TikToks. Saba’s sound is so interesting to me because it isn’t like anyone else’s. He is one of the most lyrical and insightful rappers out. today and I truly believe he’s on his way to being one of the greats.

‘Few Good Things’ dropped a year ago today, and one of my favorite songs off the project is ‘Come My Way’ featuring Krayzie Bone. For starters, the vibe and beat of the song is definitely a callback to the musical choices of Bone Thugz N Harmony. This track has not left my rotation since it dropped. Both of them slid on that track. I love when people pay homage to those who have come before them and I think Krayzie was a perfect feature selection for this track!

Another standout for me was ‘Still’, featuring Smino & Black. It’s a timeless bop that you can put on to vibe to anywhere. Smino and Saba have collaborated before in the past on other tracks, and I really feel like their chemistry is insane. Smino added in such unique vocals to the track and of course his verse was incredible. 6lack killed the chorus and Saba rapping about his lover was (chefs kiss)

The project overall was very balanced and easy to listen to. Some of the tracks blew me away lyrically, others made me want to get up and jump around. Some put me in my feels, others were just a solid vibe.

I’m excited to see what SABA does next. The chicago rapper caught the attention of many back in the early 2010s when he used to collab with Chance The Rapper, Mick Jenkins, Tink, and more. Since then, he’s formed Pivot Gang with some of his family memebers and long time associates. Every project he’s dropped to date has show the progression he’s made, and I can’t wait to hear what’s next.
