18 Year Old Cliffane Forrester Has A Painting On Display at the Met #BlackGirlMagic

Cliffanie Forrester is an 18 year old artist from Brooklyn, New York. She is a recent high school graduate and has recently accomplished one of her life long dreams. Cliffanie has one of her beautiful paintings hanging in the Metropolitan Museums of Art, one of the most renowned museums in the country.

On June 14th, she tweeted a picture of a beautiful portrait of a young girl staring off into the distance. The portrait is called “Uganda”, and the tweet stated “ who just completed their life goal at the age of 18? Me.” The tweet has more than 40,000 retweets and over 90,000 likes. The image has been viewed over 3,000,000 times. Forrester states she was inspired to paint the picture after her mission trip with her church to Uganda.

It is very hard for artists of color to have their work shown in mainstream media let alone mainstream museums. Forrester’s painting was chosen to hang in the met after winning a scholarship competition for NYC kids. It will be on view at the Met Gala until October, then it will make its way to Times Square to be featured on a billboard from June 22 to June 26.

Cliffanie’s next goal is to have another piece of her work hanging in another museum. The artist states that she will never give up on her artwork, and she definitely shouldn't.
